Sharon Matola Conservation Scholarship

The Sharon Matola Conservation Scholarship was created in 2023 during our 40th anniversary celebrations in honour of The Belize Zoo’s legendary founder. As a way of preserving her legacy, the Sharon Matola Conservation Scholarship enables us to ensure more trailblazers like Sharon are aided in realizing their full potential in conservation of our natural resources.
The Scholarship provides an annual tuition award of up to $10,000BZ to a Belizean woman to pursue undergraduate studies at any tertiary academic institution in Belize in the natural sciences: Biology, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science.
Requirements:
- A letter of application, addressed to the Sharon Matola Conservation Scholarship Committee, stating your professional goals and philosophies, as well as your interest in protecting Belize’s natural environment. Must be 300 – 500 words.
- Copy of your transcript from previously attended High School or Junior College. A copy is sufficient; you do not need to provide an original transcript.
- Letter of recommendation.
- Acceptance letter to a tertiary institution in Belize.
- Completed Scholarship Profile Form (click here).
Applications will be reviewed by the Sharon Matola Conservation Scholarship Committee.
Selection is based on the following criteria: academic performance; professional potential; financial need; extracurricular activities; demonstrated leadership; and your professional goals and philosophies, as stated in your letter of application.
