UPDATE ON THE MARUBA "VIPER RUM" ISSUE
For those of you who have been interested in the legal action being taken against Maruba Lodge, for their practice of killing snakes, putting these dead animals in bottles, decanting rum on top and then selling to tourists as a "curio", (all of the above-mentioned activites are illegal), there is disappointing news on this.
The legal counsel from the Belize Government contacted us today, 25 June, stating that "the case was dropped".
Why? Appears that this grand present to Maruba came from "higher up".........a "favour" type of action from officials who misuse their authority........something which unfortunately, occurs in countries throughout the world.
Advise anyone planning to visit Belize to avoid Maruba Lodge. Continuation of reminding them of their unprincipled behaviour is appreciated by all of us who work to protect the natural resources of Belize. Thank you, Sharon Matola
